Nutmeg state

Here we are in Connecticut! Rosie and I left on Friday before Mike, who will be joining us on Tuesday. While it was hard to leave Daddy-O, we're grateful for the extra time with family over here. As usual, here is a photo montage to catch you up:

4 hour layover in Denver.

Passing the time on the plane with a book. According to one flight attendant, Rosie was the best kid he'd flown with. This coming from an Orlando-based crew (i.e. Disneyworld) apparently is impressive!

Picked up at BDL by Ba Ngoai, Di T, and Ong Ngoai (circling around the terminals)

Catching a ride with Ong H

Laughing with Ong Co

Napping in the backyard. What a life!

Like two fish in a fish pond!

Eating prunes with Ong Ngoai.

All tuckered out after singing karaoke.

RosieRadio: I've Got Dreams to Remember by Otis Redding

Tonight's lullaby

I've got dreams
Dreams to remember
I've got dreams Dreams to remember
Honey I saw you there last night
Another mans arms holding you tight
Nobody knows what I feeled inside
All I know, I walked away and cried
I've got dreams
Dreams to remember
[Listen to me] I've got dreams, rough dreams Dreams to remember
I know you said he was just a friend
But I saw him kiss you again and again
These eyes of mine, they don't fool me
Why did he hold you so tenderly?
I've got dreams
Dreams to remember
[Listen honey] I've got dreams
Dreams, rough dreams
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/o/otis-redding-lyrics/i_ve-got-dreams-to-remember-lyrics.html ]
Dreams to remember
I still want you to stay
I still love you anyway
I still don't want you to ever leave
Girl, you just satisfy me! [Ooh-Wee!]
I know you said he was just a friend
But I saw you kiss him again and again
These eyes of mine, they don't fool me
Why did he hold you so tenderly?
I've got dreams
Dreams to remember
[Listen to me mama]
I've got dreams
Dreams, bad dreams
Dreams, rough dreams
To remember
Don't make me suffer
Dreams, bad dreams
Dreams, rough dreams
To remember

7 month birthday

At 7 months Rosa has become really engaging and fun. Here are some highlights:
  • Sitting more sturdily (though still has a tendency to throw her head backwards for fun)
  • Babbling (in particular "ba ba ba", though she has been caught saying what sounds like "oh yeah")
  • Jumping: legs AND arms go nuts. Today I joked that if we put her on the ground she might take off like a cheetah)
  • Independent moving: She isn't crawling yet, but if she has a destination in mind she will roll over, turn 90 degrees, and roll again to get closer.
  • Pulling herself up to standing
  • Facial expressions! She has this new look we like to call Le Tigre (see picture!). It's pretty ridiculous...ly cute. Though we have tried to limit our reaction so she doesn't do it allll the time
  • Eating: She's diversified her palette to peas, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pears, avocado, and of course banana.
  • Sleeping: Rosa remains to be a pretty good napper but once we started solids she started waking up more often at night. Between that and then a recent "cold" that made her congested, sleep has been more interrupted. And as a result she's come back into bed with us for at least half the night. It's not always the most comfortable sleep, but I will say I do love having her close by. She's quite the cuddler!
  • Separation anxiety? Rosa usually is quite comfortable with people holding her (sometimes complete strangers) but just recently she was showing early signs of separation anxiety, looking for Mom or Dad if someone else is holding her. But it might have just been crankiness from interrupted nap schedules. To be continued on this one.
  • Teething: It feels like a tooth might be surfacing. She is even more aggressively gnawing on things and on occasion will leak like a faucet. Who knows how long it'll go on for!
Happy birthday baby.

Father's Day 2011

First Father's Day!

Saturday morning Daddy-O and Baby got to sleep in. We then headed for Coyote Lake where our friends were camping. We walked around and hung out at the campsite for a while then headed out to the birthday party of a 1-year old. There we met lots more babies and parents and relaxed on the grass.
Sunday morning we headed to Lou's, a diner in Los Gatos. Talk about time warp. Definitely felt like walking into the 70s, though I have a feeling they didn't serve portions the size of your head in the 70s.

We were going to go for a hike, but with the weather in the high 90s, we were already sweating bullets just from brunch so we decided to postpone our hike. Instead we drove out to Livermore to be with Daddy-O #1 and Mae. They came with us on a hunt for new patio furniture, what Mike said would be an awesome father's day gift for the family.
When it finally cooled a bit, we took a beautiful sunset walk along the vineyards. The weather was perfect, the hills gradual, and we even ran into friends of Mike's who were very excited to see us.

Happy Father's Day!

stand and delivery box

Got a big package in the mail and decided to keep the box for Rosie to play with. Little did we know that was all it would take for her to showcase a new milestone: standing!

recap: week of june 6

Tuesday we had some babies and moms over for a music playdate. That thing in the middle is an awesome rotating bell that one of the moms uses for her work with infants with visual impairments.

Wednesday had lunch at Benfica, a Portuguese soccer club in San Jose, with Daddy-O, Vavô, Vavó, and cousin M.

Thursday we hung out at the park with good friends H & Baby P. They were having a grand ol' time together!

Friday we ended to Livermore for cousin A's high school graduation. Congrats!!

On Saturday we went to Dia de Portugal celebration in San Jose. It ended up being quite the marathon! We were there from 11 until about 6, connecting with family and friends throughout the day, including Vavó, Vavô, Uncle R, cousins M & A, friends from DCP and LUCHA. The 2nd picture is of Mike and sleepy Rosa in the Museu Histórico Português.

Afterward some family came over to relax with us before friends came over and cooked us dinner! Pretty good deal for us.

Sunday morning Daddy-o took Rosa for a walk so I could get some shut eye after a rough night of baby waking up almost every hour. We suspect something is amiss because she was veeeeeeery unhappy. Later we did some house cleaning and yard work. Rosa tried to fly away with the rake, but luckily Mike caught her before she got too far.

Afterward we went to a BBQ to celebrate a friend's MBA graduation. And thEN we headed to dinner with more friends who have a sweet, crawling baby and feasted on local fare from the farmer's market.

Phew!

eventful weekend

Our weekend started off with graduation at Mike's school. It was an awesome ceremony with a huge turnout from families and the community to support the graduating seniors. My favorite part of the ceremony is diplomas. Each student got to have a statement read as they crossed the stage to get their diploma. Here's a pic of Mr. De Sousa in action:

Saturday morning Mike woke up relaxed and carefree, having successfully finished off another eventful year as principal. We also woke up to pouring rain. So Mike had the wonderful idea to head to the Monterey Bay Aquarium since we were going to be stuck indoors somewhere. Best idea Ever!

Tropical fish: Here's Rosie mesmerized by the tropical fish, though in all honesty I ended up being the one who couldn't take my eyes off this. So amazing!

Rosie plain ol' happy to be at the aquarium!
Too much time in the pool, and this is what happens...
Three's company: Vi, Rosa, Baleen Whale
Hey Rosa! Stop doing this:
Rosie the Riveter meets Jacque Cousteau

Finally the storm clouds subsided and we took a nice walk around the town.I spy a rainbow!
Flower bigger than baby's head.
Relaxing on the beach.

Sunday: We head to Livermore to celebrate Vavô's birthday. We have a super tasty feast and get some good QT in with the family.

Vavô and her baby by the grill.Rosie getting a kick out of Uncle Roger
Officially trained babysitter - baby is in good hands!
You can't tell from this picture but she kept following Tia around the room with her eyes.

Now thAT's a weekend!
